The only hour is Golden Hour.

There's a moment, about an hour before the sun dips behind the hills, when the East Bay does something extraordinary. The light goes warm and golden, the air softens, and every location — whether it's a lush garden in Walnut Creek, a sweeping open space ridge, or a textured wall in downtown Martinez — becomes something genuinely cinematic.

Not to be low key dramatic, but I am OBSESSED with this moment.

I build every senior session around this moment. Not only do I have dozens of location options and know which are peaking (or a miss) right now, I know when to be there, for exactly this moment.

I'm Jodi Foucher, a senior portrait photographer serving Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Concord, and the greater East Bay. After years of shooting — and living — in this area, I know where to be when the light is right. Not because I googled it. Because I've driven these roads, hiked these trails, and pulling over "just to check it out" is why I'm always late, and why an errand means driving an extra 10 miles.

For Northgate Families: You Are Surrounded by Stunning Locations

If your senior goes to Northgate High School, here's something you might not realize: within 10 minutes of Northgate Highschool, there are open space hills, gorgeous golden fields, rustic trails, barns, ridge crests, and even urban vibes... that look like they belong in a magazine — especially at golden hour. You don't need to drive far to get something extraordinary. It's already right there.

Spring schedules are packed — I get it. AP exams, spring sports, Senior Season. That's exactly why I make booking and planning as easy as possible, and why knowing local locations matters. We find what works for your schedule, we time it around the light, and we make it happen without adding stress to an already full spring.

The Spots I Keep Coming Back To

Alcalanes Ridge - Classic LaMorinda Walnut Creek views.

This one speaks for itself. Wide open sky, sweeping East Bay views, amazing winding trails and the unique glow of Eucalyptis at golden hour — it's that melts in your mouth feeling for your eyes.

Shell Ridge — A Sunset Spot I Almost Missed

I drove past this trail for years before I finally stopped. Now it's one of my absolute favorites. There's a spot along Shell Ridge that catches the late afternoon sun in a way that is genuinely hard to describe — warm, dramatic, and completely stunning. The kind of place you feel lucky to know about.

A Backdoor Trail in Lafayette — Found It on My Way Home

This one I stumbled onto completely by accident, on my way home from a meeting. A back entrance into a park that most people drive right past — and it is the epitome of the East Bay. Rolling hills, golden light filtering through oak trees, that unmistakable California landscape, that only WE get.

The Gardens at Heather Farm & Markham Arboretum

This year the wildflowers bowed out early thanks to the heat, but the gardens more than make up for it. The Gardens of Heather Farms in Walnut Creek is lush and layered, full of color and texture that glows at golden hour.

I have two mini session spots open there right now — they will go fast. (Book here →)

Markham Nature Park & Arboretum in Concord is a quieter gem — luscious trees, native plants, winding paths, tons of blooming flowers in April. The biggest problem is WHERE to spend our time there, with so many options.

Downtown Martinez — For Something With Edge

Colorful murals, textured walls, and YES old gas stations. For seniors who want something with more personality and a little less "classic nature shoot," downtown Martinez delivers.

📸 Not Every Senior Is Thrilled About Photos —queue the Senior Quickie Session!

Let's be honest. Some seniors are are doing this entirely for mom.

If your senior falls into the second category, I've got you. The Senior Quickie Session is one location, in and out, no big production — just clean, great photos that mom will love. Discounted price, low pressure, done. Mom gets her wall photo. Senior gets their afternoon back. Everybody wins.

Let's Make Your Photos Unforgettable

Walnut Creek is beautiful. Golden hour here is really beautiful...obsess much? Knowing exactly where to be — and when — is everything.

Spring sessions are booking up, and those Heather Farm mini sessions won't last long. If you're a Northgate family — or anywhere in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Concord, Martinez, or Pleasant Hill — let's get something on the calendar before the good light and the open dates are both gone.
